A container terminal in Penang fitted heavy-duty barriers and gate RFID readers across six truck lanes, reducing average gate transaction time from 96 seconds to 34 seconds and cutting the morning truck queue by roughly two-thirds.

Challenge
Truck gate transactions were keyed in manually by clerks, so each container movement took about 96 seconds and queues of 40 or more trucks formed outside the port in the early morning. Gate clerks also had no automatic way to confirm that the truck presented matched the container on the chassis.
Solution
Six lanes were equipped with BRX-8000 heavy-duty barriers with reinforced arms and BRX-RFID-UHF300 gate readers. The container and chassis tags are read as the truck crosses the loop, the gate controller validates the pair against the terminal system and either opens the barrier automatically or holds it and alerts the clerk, with a camera snapshot written to the record.
Result
Average gate transaction time fell 65% from 96 to 34 seconds, peak queue length outside the port dropped by roughly two-thirds, and the terminal has an automatic tag-and-plate record for every container movement instead of a keyed entry.
